During my final year of university, George Mason University's Mason Exhibitions reached out to me to work on a portrait project that honored indigenous cultures and the land they represent. I was tasked with taking indigenous student portraits with my own vision, and I had decided to photograph them with the intention of challenging the stigma of indigenous cultures being "primitive" and "ancient", and showing them in the modernity that they reside in, just like anyone else. Indigenous cultures are extremely diverse, rich in culture in history, but remain as contemporary and relevant as any other culture.
